El Trailing Drawdown es un mecanismo de control de riesgo utilizado en programas de fondeo para limitar la pérdida máxima permitida mientras la cuenta crece mediante una operativa rentable.

Qué es el Trailing Drawdown

El Trailing Drawdown es un tipo de límite de pérdida máxima que se mueve a medida que la cuenta alcanza nuevos niveles de beneficio.

A diferencia del static drawdown, este límite no permanece fijo. El nivel de pérdida permitido aumenta a medida que la cuenta alcanza nuevos máximos de balance cerrado.

Sin embargo, el límite nunca disminuye si se producen pérdidas.

Si en cualquier momento el equity de la cuenta cae por debajo de este nivel, la cuenta se considera en incumplimiento y pasa a estar inactiva.

Este sistema está diseñado para fomentar un crecimiento gradual de la cuenta mientras se mantiene un control de riesgo estricto.

Diferencia entre Trailing Drawdown y Static Drawdown

Existen dos modelos principales de drawdown utilizados en programas de fondeo.

Static Drawdown

El límite de pérdida máxima se calcula a partir del balance inicial de la cuenta y permanece fijo durante toda la vida de la cuenta.

Ejemplo

  • Cuenta inicial
    100,000 USD

  • Max drawdown
    10%

El límite de pérdida será siempre

  • 90,000 USD

Este nivel no cambia aunque la cuenta genere beneficios.

Trailing Drawdown

El límite de pérdida se ajusta a medida que la cuenta genera beneficios.

A medida que la cuenta alcanza nuevos máximos de balance cerrado, el nivel mínimo permitido también sube.

Este mecanismo protege parte de los beneficios generados durante la operativa mientras sigue permitiendo que la cuenta crezca.

Ejemplo de Trailing Drawdown

  • Cuenta inicial
    100,000 USD

  • Max drawdown
    6%

  • Pérdida máxima permitida
    6,000 USD

  • Nivel inicial de drawdown
    100,000 − 6,000 = 94,000 USD

Si en cualquier momento el equity de la cuenta cae por debajo de 94,000 USD, la cuenta se considera en incumplimiento.

Progresión del Trailing Drawdown

Primera operación

  • Beneficio
    +2,000 USD

  • Nuevo balance
    102,000 USD

  • Nuevo nivel de drawdown
    102,000 − 6,000 = 96,000 USD

El límite sube a 96,000 USD porque se ha alcanzado un nuevo máximo de balance cerrado.

Segunda operación

  • Pérdida
    −1,000 USD

  • Nuevo balance
    101,000 USD

El cálculo sería

  • 101,000 − 6,000 = 95,000 USD

Como este valor es inferior al límite actual, el trailing drawdown no se mueve.

El límite permanece en 96,000 USD.

Tercera operación

  • Beneficio
    +3,000 USD

  • Nuevo balance
    104,000 USD

  • Nuevo cálculo
    104,000 − 6,000 = 98,000 USD

El límite sube a 98,000 USD después de alcanzarse un nuevo máximo de balance cerrado.

Regla importante del Trailing Drawdown

El trailing drawdown solo se mueve cuando se alcanza un nuevo máximo histórico de balance cerrado.

Los beneficios flotantes de operaciones abiertas no mueven el nivel de drawdown. El nivel trailing solo aumenta cuando una operación se cierra y el balance de la cuenta alcanza un nuevo máximo.

Al mismo tiempo, los incumplimientos se activan por equity, no por balance. Esto significa que una posición abierta en pérdida puede cerrar la cuenta aunque el balance cerrado permanezca por encima del nivel de drawdown.

Por qué se utiliza el Trailing Drawdown

El trailing drawdown ayuda a equilibrar dos objetivos clave dentro de un programa de fondeo.

Por un lado, protege el capital frente a pérdidas excesivas.

Por otro lado, va consolidando progresivamente los beneficios a medida que la cuenta crece.

Este modelo fomenta un comportamiento de trading disciplinado, estable y sostenible a lo largo del tiempo.

Consejo práctico

Al operar con trailing drawdown, es importante supervisar el equity de la cuenta, no solo el balance.

Antes de abrir una nueva operación, considera siempre la distancia entre el equity actual y el nivel trailing. Esa distancia representa el margen de riesgo real disponible en la cuenta.
